ABOUT THE HOUSE
Cherie Gorden and Gertie
Cherie and Ric Gorden opened Aunt
Gertrude's House and Sister's Doll
Hospital in 1997 in the beautiful
DeSteiguer building downtown,
in Historic Guthrie Oklahoma.
Their business is named for
Cherie's Aunt Gertrude (Zigler)
who for many years was an
antique dealer and collector of
fine antiques in Oklahoma City.
Her house was filled with
wonderful things and along with
Cherie's grandmother Mattie,
the ladies always had something
delicious baking in the oven as a
special treat.
The Gordens have recreated this welcoming ambiance
at Aunt Gertrude's House. You'll be greeted at the door
by Gertie, invited for coffee or tea and a taste of Cherie's
homemade shortbread.
Aunt Gertrude's House features a wide variety of fine collectibles,
gifts and accessories and a gallery, full to the brim with American
Craft and Fine Art including jewelry, glass, wood, paintings, pottery,
collage and sculpture.
In addition you'll discover a room filled with antique dolls and
Steiff mohair animals to add to your collection.
Sister's Doll Hospital, located within the shop, is an integral part
of Aunt Gertrude's House. Sister's is a family trade going back
almost 60 years. Cherie's father Luther Woodard was a master
at restoring fine antique porcelains. Aunt Gertrude and Mattie
Woodard restored, repaired and costumed antique dolls. Cherie
learned unique and delicate techniques from her family and stands
today as a respected expert in these highly sought after skills.
She lectures and appears at antique forums and often speaks to
civic groups who are interested in porcelain and antique doll
restoration. The Sister's Doll Hospital provides a fascinating and
delightful glimpse into a most unique art.
The Gordens are dedicated proponents of preservation and active
participants in the Historic Guthrie community. They are continuing
to work on restoring their beautiful building and are recent recipients
of the Foucart Award for excellence in preservation and restoration
and awarded annually by The Logan County Historical Society.
